1988: In the time preceding Robot Wars, Battle Bots, and the Atomic Flame Deluge, there was the Terminator Competition. Creatively crazed product designers toiled long into the evening hours crafting fiendish, malevolent machines with one sole purpose: destroying their opponents in any manner possible. Man and machine would do battle in an arena on an appointed day. One by one the machines would be smashed or burnt into submission and the victor would advance to the next hellish round. And when the smoke finally cleared, only one machine would remain. That machine was known as the TERMINATOR. So punishing, so completely devastating were the consequences of this endeavor that it was outlawed for the remainder of the millennium.
In the ensuing decade, it was forbidden to propose another Terminator Competition. Designers came and went to other companies. Small groups would speak in hushed voices of bygone days. Wishes and wants spawned mainstream "Me-too" products that would never be. The originators of the competition were relegated to the position of hapless bystanders as copycat newcomers jumped on our bandwagon and profitted from their "Robot Wars" and "Battle Bots" incarnations. Alas, it appeared that all was lost . . .
Until now. On November 12, Terminator history will be rewritten.
WILL YOU BE THERE?
